About & Experience

Artist's Statement

For as far back as I can recall I’ve always wanted to tell stories. Overwhelmed with awe by the ability to be transported to a different reality through visual stimulation. The connections that can be formed with fictional characters or even relics from the past through a narrative is priceless.

As an artist I would like to convey the seemingly infinite multitude of feelings and experiences one can have as a conscious mind through a variety of different mediums. Within those mediums I want to particularly focus on 3 vast subjects including intimacy, representation, and time space. Through self reflection and a deep fascination with balance I feel that these few but complex concepts can be explored for a lifetime.

My primary art form is illustration and creative writing/storytelling; I also have experience in digital art, traditional drawing/painting, pyrography, screenprinting, and design. I’ve taken the time to practice each of these mediums not only out of sincere passion for exploration in artistic range, but also as a way to convey different tones and ideas through corresponding pieces.

The most important aspect of creating art to me is capturing the nuances and small details of everyday encounters. I’ve found that comics/graphic novels is the medium where specific perspectives can be put on display, and several of the forms I’ve learned so far can converge into a single storytelling tool. Creating a collection of stories, from a mythical hero’s tale to a cultural icon's history, where diversity can be genuinely portrayed. Within that same realm I want to use illustration and design as a way to present black culture through physical objects such as posters, accessories/merchandise, and fashion. I also want to explore more personal and emotional experiences through illustration/painting series, and tattooing.

The exchange between the artist and the viewer is more direct and I believe that has a certain value to it. Eventually, I would like to even explore the aspect of larger and more collaborative projects such as creating films and television/streaming series.

From analyzing emotional milestones through a marginalized perspective, marking a body with an important image, or owning a piece of clothing that makes someone feel authentically themselves. Having authentic representation on a broad scale has the ability to change lives, and believe that the best way to do that is through as many consumable art forms as possible.
